El Palometero

May 4-8, 2024

El Palometero supports the schools and families of Punta Allen, while participants experience fly-fishing some of the best saltwater flats in the world. This is the only event that unites all of Punta Allen's businesses including multiple lodges, guides, restaurants, and other key locals that comprise the local fly-fishing industry.  The organization consists of a diverse group of members who draw no salaries, fees or travel reimbursement.  100% of the profits benefit the town and schools of Punta Allen, Mexico.  More importantly, the event allows the town to host its own fundraiser to improve their own school facilities, playgrounds, and other infrastructure needs.  The tournament is hosted by locals and encourages visitors to immerse themselves in the culture and vibrancy of this Mexican town. In addition to the tournament, the event also consists of an auction, raffle and children's piñata gathering. 

Please consider visiting for the week to fish 6 days that include the 3 fishing days of the tournament as part of your week.  With few exceptions, most lodges only book 6-day fishing trips during busy months.  April and May are some of the busy months.  Registration will open to those confirmed for the week.

The general schedule is as follows:

DAY 1: Evening opening ceremony, rules, announcements, and taco-cocktail cuisine.
DAY 2: Competition Day 1 - 8am-4pm
DAY 3: Competition Day 2 - 8am-4pm
DAY 4: Competition Day 3, - 8am-4pm followed by piñatas, awards, raffle, auction and Yucatan dinner.

Day 5: Depart, or stay and fish for the week.
